About our Ranch
Our Story
On January 1, 1952, at the ripe young ages of 19 and 20, Noel and Anna Curry realized a dream as they moved from southwest Oklahoma to McNeal, Arizona.
A couple of years later, in 1953, Ernie and Eunice White, only 23 and 20 at that time, moved from California to a mesquite patch a few miles up the road, just northeast of Elfrida, Arizona.
These two young couples each had a dream - to create a life for their families that were soon on the way.
Drilling wells; breaking out land from mesquite thickets; reviving old farms and farmhouses; raising chile, cotton, corn, milo; feeding cattle; and doing everything they could to scratch out a living in the Sulpher Springs Valley soil that they had dreamed of working for so long.
These two young families became close friends as the bond and camaraderie of the challenges of agriculture in a land full of great opportunities and high risk, countless obstacles and many blessings, drew them together.
In 2002, after graduation from Texas A&M University with a degree in Agronomy, Jason had the opportunity to farm with the help of his granddad, Noel. Not long after moving to Cochise, Jason & Candice met at a local high school graduation. Even though the families had known each other for years, Jason grew up in Texas so they knew nothing about one another! Candice was still attending the University of Arizona when they met and graduated in 2003 with a degree in Animal Science.
When Candice White and Jason Barnard were married in 2004, these two families joined, and WhiteBarn Farms was born! We are thankful for the road that each of our families traveled that led to Southern Arizona some 70 years ago.
After a couple of moves, we were able to buy a farm near Portal, AZ. As the dream of feeding cattle slowly became a reality, we started growing only alfalfa and corn to feed in the cattle ration. It soon became clear that we weren't really much of a farm anymore because our focus was on hay and cattle! So a name change happened to WhiteBarn Hay & Cattle.
Jason had a dream to one day haul off all of our farm products on hooves! It's been fun and challenging watching this dream come to life! Today our hay and corn are fed to the cattle, which become beef for your family! Welcome to our farm....nice to meet ya!
